DDoS and bot attacks go far beyond taking a site offline. They steal data, commit fraud, harvest sensitive information, and disrupt operations while blending in with real users. Generative AI is arming botnets with convincing, human-like behaviour - varying dwell time, switching devices, rewriting requests - and adapting to defenses in seconds. These attacks mix low and slow probing with sudden surges across web and API channels, slipping past CAPTCHAs and legacy controls. Hyper-volumetric events (>1 Tbps) are also surging, and with many L3/L4 attacks being conducted over short windows (<10 minutes), manual response is impractical - and single-layer controls leave gaps that attackers can take advantage of. Security analysts face the constant challenge of stopping fast-changing threats without disrupting legitimate users - all while managing detection and mitigation tools. The role demands fine-tuning, split-second decisions, and deep expertise, yet resources are often stretched thin.
